The world is now facing a major turning point. Until now, we have optimistically thought that the world is becoming more globalized, and as a result, people's lives will be enriched, many diseases will be overcome, and a safe and happy future awaits us. However, in the past few years, serious crises associated with globalization have come one after another, such as the spread of the new corona virus infection worldwide, the global energy and food crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and global warming due to the increase in carbon dioxide concentration associated with human activities, and the negative aspects of globalization have also become clear. At this turning point where the light and darkness of globalization may be reversed, what is truly needed is "knowledge" that flexibly moves back and forth between local and global, and people who acquire and practice that knowledge. Akita Prefectural University is a new university established in 1999 and is a science university with many excellent facilities: the Faculty and Graduate School of Systems Science and Technology, and the Faculty and Graduate School of Bioresource Sciences. To date, we have accumulated achievements in knowledge creation and human resource development while looking at both the global and local perspectives, with the goal of "Nurturing human resources that will open up the 21st century with a spirit of searching for truth with a broad perspective, flexible ideas, abundant creativity, and by contributing to the sustainable development of Akita Prefecture through conducting cutting-edge research and technological development." Akita Prefecture is blessed with nature, has resources such as extensive farmland and forests, and is developing futuristic industries such as electronic components and devices, and is an excellent place for the practice of knowledge that develops from local to global. Upon assuming this position, I would like to develop Akita Prefectural University from the following perspectives.
